News and Announcements

Hello Aztecs!

Here is the information for the official start to our 2020 CdS XC season.

We will be practicing at 5:45am Monday through Thursday starting this Monday, the 24th! Athletes are expected to run on their own on Friday. We will have our long run on Saturday morning at 6:00am. Athletes are off on Sunday.

Athletes: our workout days will still be on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:45a, just like we have been doing the past few weeks.

From this point forward all Athletes are expected to attend all practices. Athletes need communicate to head coaches if they will be missing practice as soon as possible. A 24 hour notice prior to a missed practice is preferred.

Without exception all athletes MUST complete and turn in/upload all the necessary paperwork to www.registermyathlete.com by Monday’s practice. ALSO, for this season ALL Althetes must complete an opioid training on aiaonline.org. Here is the link: https://academy.azpreps365.com/. Associated with the opioid course is the brainbook concussion course. All freshmen and new athletes must complete this. If returning athletes remember their username and pass for https://academy.azpreps365.com/, they will not be required to retake the brainbook concussion course.

All athletes MUST be registered and cleared on www.registermyathlete.com AND upload the AIA opioid/brainbook completion certificate to www.registermyathlete.com by Monday at 5:45am or they WILL NOT be allowed to practice.

Please do not wait until the last second to do this.

If you need help with www.registermyathlete.com, please email Angelica Rivera (the CdS Athletic Secretary) at arivera@tuhsd.k12.az.us if you have any issues between now and Monday.

GO AZTECS!!!

Hello Aztecs, now that online learning is solidified for Tempe Union and Mesa Public Schools (where I teach) TAC and I are changing the practice schedule.

FIRST: We will now be practicing on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 5:45am. We apologize for another change, but as you now, things are fluid in all Arizona schools at this time.

The Athletes will be released from practice as close to 7am as possible, so they can get home and log onto their 1st period class.

All Athletes are expected to be at practice at 5:45am SHARP! We will not be waiting for stragglers as time will be limited.

August 24th is the official start to our season. We will communicate what the practice schedule will look like for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Saturday morning practices will remain the same at 6am.

SECOND: We heard GREAT news for 2020! As of right now, we are going to have a XC season! Obviously this can change if the district shuts down Fall Sports due to Covid. Since this announcement was made a few days ago, our schedule is yet to be determined.

LAST: Please remember to log on to www.registermyathlete.com to get your childs information moved from 2019-2020 to 2020-2021. As a reminder, ONLY incoming Freshmen AND students who are new to TUHSD are required to get a physical for the 2020 XC season.

Please let TAC or I know if you have any questions.

Covid Phase 2 information

Posted by Corona Del Sol Cross Country at Jul 31, 2020 4:57PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

This should not affect what we have been doing for XC so far. However, we wanted to send this info from Mr. Nenaber:

July 31, 2020

Dear TUHSD Parents & Families:

We are very excited for the start of the 2020-2021 school year and the return to athletics & activities. Although this year is anything but typical, Tempe Union High School District is committed to providing our students with a safe environment to continue their extracurricular experiences.

Over the past two months, we have established safety protocols and a phased approach to return to play. This has been a data-driven approach to allow our students the opportunity to prepare for their Fall activities. As a result of the implemented protocols, we have seen great coordination between our coaches and athletes to ensure the health and safety of all involved.

Currently, the AIA has established August 17th as the start date for the Fall season. There is a possibility that this date may change; as the AIA makes any further determinations, we will keep our families informed.

As we move into Phase II, the updates to protocols are as follows:

Social Distancing / PPE
During Phase I, all social distancing guidelines and PPE requirements, in the form of masks, were in effect.

During Phase II, social distancing will still be in effect but there will be additional sport-specific groupings allowed.

Hand washing hygiene and all cleaning regimens will continue, as per Phase I.

Mandatory masks will continue to be worn at all times inside and encouraged for outdoor activities.

Temperature

During Phase I, temperatures and health assessments were taken prior to training or gathering.

These protocols will remain in effect during Phase II.

Hydration

During Phase I, students were required to bring 2 gallons of water for their own use. Communal water was not supplied.

There will be no changes to hydration protocol during Phase II.

Small Groups

During Phase I, no more than 10 people were allowed to gather at any given time. The same coach/advisor was assigned to each group of 10 for the duration of these activities. Practice groups were limited to groups of 10, and there was a limit of two hours of training per day.

During Phase II, cohorts will be expanded to groups of 50.

If smaller practice groups are created, they will be limited to 2 to 4 people from the existing cohort of 50, and those groups will be maintained through the entirety of Phase II.

Physical contact will be held to a minimum.

Additionally, the hours of training allowed per day will be expanded to a maximum of three hours.

Education
During Phase l, all TUHSD staff and students received COVID-19 education, including instruction on safety protocols such as regular cleaning of spaces and social distancing.

Education will continue as appropriate during Phase II and remain focused on social distancing, hand washing, mask wearing, and other preventative measures.

We appreciate your commitment to keeping our athletes safe and healthy. Despite the challenges of the current situation, we are very forward to this athletic season.

Cory Nenaber

Athletic Director

Corona del Sol High School

It has been great to see the kids in person. All the Athletes have been working hard. We are very proud!

As of next Tuesday, (August 4th) Girls and Boys practice times are changing. The change is due to school starting.

Boys will be practicing at 6:00pm Tuesday and Thurday at Corona.

Girls will be practicing at 7:15pm Tuesday and Thursday at Corona.

The Girls are still expected to run on their own, or in their groups, the other days of the week. The Boys need to speak with TAC to see what their plan is.

Please adjust accordingly.
